Reading this article, its not surprising that Geoffrey Stevens is a University teacher of political science. Our Canadian Universities are well known as safe havens for socialist, Liberal propagandists, who regularly publish opinion papers that they purport to have "researched". This article is just pure socialist rhetoric. The reality is that 40% of all convicted criminals will re-offend while on probation and an even higher percentage will re-offend after their statutory release period. Longer prison sentences keep bad people off the streets for longer periods of time which makes our society safer. Longer prison sentences give us a better chance of being effective in the delivery of correctional programs. Most offenders are released on probation after only serving one third of their sentence and so longer prison sentences mean that the punishment come closer to matching the crime. You don't have to be a Harperite or Conservative to believe these facts to be true. The reality is that while the Charter is very important for all Canadians, the unintended byproducts are loop-holes, defenses, protections, and other barriers that limit the ability of good people from catching and incarcerating the bad people. The reality is that a lot of really bad people go free and stay free because their lawyers are successful in using Charter case law. Sometimes, the Charter takes a holy priority over truth, guilt or innocence. I never heard Fanitino suggest that we should abandon the Charter or that there is something better. He simply made a statement of undeniable truth that Criminals benefit most from the Charter. The Charter gives Geoffrey and Justin the right to express their opinions and also it gives me the right say that they both sound like "Hug-a-Thugs". Its got a bit of cute rig to it. "Hug-a-Thug". And what's wrong with cute? Isn't that what got Justin Trudeau elected?
