Re: Criminalized for Poverty So glad to see this piece. Revictimizing people who desperately need our help by incarcerating them seems ludicrous in a country like Canada. Getting politicians to recognize that we do indeed have people who have mental illnesses, are victims of drug and alcohol predators, or just painfully poor, seems to be very difficult. I don't understand. Why don't they want to help them? Could it be that building more prisons to house the victims--then privatizing the prisons--is yet again all about pandering to the private sector, and dissing the suffering Canadian.

Yes,let's invest in prevention! Let's build Schools & Mental Health Clinics instead of Prisons. Lets employ Teachers and Mental Health Workers instead of Prison Guards. Let's "Get Smart on Crime".
