No question that the solutions proposed would be a huge improvement. But they are only half of the equation if we don't factor more PREVENTIVE measures into the system (and I'm not talking about drugs). The big box complex must also have in it exercise/Tai Chi/Yoga classes, meditation programs, counselling, massage therapy, single parent drop-ins, healthy cooking classes, smoking cessation programs...all the methods that have been shown time and time again will prevent some of these chronic conditions, and modify the symptoms of those already present. The biomedical way is only part of the picture. If we don't change the paradigm, we will only continue to see things like depression, hypertension, obesity, etc. levels rise even higher.

This is the best plan I have heard. How do we get the Canadian people to fight for better health care? I sign petitions all the time but I can't get others interested. We had a better system when the Federal government had a universal health care plan. Now all the Provinces have different rules some better some worse. Ontario's has deteriorated we now pay for things we didn't have to pay for before. I am a low income Senior. Hospitals are charging for everything from tenser bandages to expensive air casts etc, These things used to be covered by OHIP. For those who have extra private insurance it is covered. Those who can afford it the least have to pay the most. I have no extra insurance and no dental plan. I have not seen a dentist in over 12 years. For me paying vet bills for my beautiful dog is more important. She keeps me healthy by taking her for walks. Please keep pushing for a true universal health care system.
