Excellent article, Ish. As a teacher and a past President of the Canadian Teachers' Federation, it is refreshing to hear support for public education enunciated so well! Thank you for this article and for your ongoing work with Straight Goods and CCPA.

Spoken like a true teacher. Contemptuous of not only public opinion, but criticism of any kind whether contructive or not. When the public voices its concern about our educational system, they should not have to worry that teachers' precious charges are our children. How does that fact automatically shield teachers from criticism? Is the criticism valid or is it not? Does that question ever cross teachers' minds, and what does that have to do with politics? By slurring a public political position, and implying that its criticism is invalid because it is political, the writer has succeded in creating the political atmosphere for which she wishes others to take the blame. The facts remain, that the teaching establishment sucks 80% plus of all educational funding while test scores steadily show us to be trailing the rest of the world.
